Then there were two… Let me introduce you the second team of wacky racers – Drum roll please for Tom and Amanda Duke.
Tom:
“When mum invited me to accompany her on the Rikshaw Challenge she said it almost as a joke, such a ridiculous and far away idea. I thought about it for a couple of days and realised a trip like this would be a once in a lifetime experience. It would also be a completely novel way to spend time with mum.
“I don’t really know much or understand modern India. All I know is really based on what you see in a history book, or on the news – and I know that’s not the complete picture. I’m looking forward to finding out what India is about.
“For now, I need to find my passport, renew my driving licence and try and remember how a carburettor works. The idea of going on a proper adventure is exciting, and I can’t wait – I’m actually looking forward to getting a bit lost but I don’t know what mum thinks about that!”
Amanda:
“When Helen was chatting about her next personal challenge ‘The Rikshaw Challenge’ I was quick to ask her more about it. Having been to Rajasthan a couple of times (and fallen in love with it) I thought this could be a really great way to get to know another part of the country and see it through a completely different lens. I remembered a conversation I had with Tom, my son, a year before about the possibilities of a road trip through America. He spoke about his dreams of hiring really great cool cars to drive.
“So, I put two and two together and asked him if a Rikshaw would do and if he could swap America for India? I was thrilled when he said yes. Being with him on such a crazy adventure will make some memories that we will never forget. Over the coming months I’m going to be walking and cycling more than usual, hoping to increase my stamina ready for the rigours of the expected bumpy, noisy ride.
“I shall be looking up the places of interest and hope to see some traditional arts and crafts along the route.”
