An autorickshaw is the motorised version of the rickshaw pulled by human endeavour; most have three wheels and do not tilt, at least not intentionally! They have many names but are most commonly known as autorickshaws or tuk tuks. The first vehicles were actually made in Japan in the 1930’s but as of 2019 the biggest manufacturer in India is actually in Pune selling 780,000 in a year. Tuk Tuks are designed around motorcycle controls and you drive one just like you would ride a motorbike.

When I visit Jaipur I always spend a day with the Ladies from the Pink City Rickshaw Company.

The Pink City Rickshaw Company is a unique initiative and has been set up as a ‘not for profit’ organisation and aims to provide employment to 200 women from low income families. The women enroll and become equity holders in the company. The ladies collect you and take you round the back alleys of Jaipur and you visit many ‘off the beaten track’ nooks and crannies! These rickshaws are eco friendly and the ladies are all trained to drive and show you another side of the magical Pink City.
