Team Sakala – who are we?

We will be running three rickshaws as part of the Deccan Odyssey – the 1100kms challenge with a total of twenty five vehicles undertaking the run – raising money for Safe in Sussex.

In the first of the three are my lovely friends Sarah Hand and Martina Osie-Bobie; I hope they will still be my lovely friends when we get back to England!

The Magnificent Women and Men

Sarah is a financial advisor and oh, so much more… she has undertaken marathon cycle rides across places like Kenya and Brazil, and is an avid fundraiser for the three women’s cancer charities when she is not fundraising with me for Safe in Sussex. The last crazy idea we had together was wing-walking! Not always a good idea to answer the phone to me and when I say “Sarah, I have an idea! ” reply “Yes!” to me without hearing the idea first!

On the top of the world.

Then there is Martina, Chef Extraordinaire. Martina has carved a niche for herself excelling in vegetarian and vegan cooking, and is the chef of choice at Knepp Castle. Martina has had other careers but she has now come back to her passion which is good, locally sourced food… so India is going to be a food journey for her as well. Last summer I persuaded her to go skydiving, again raising funds for Safe in Sussex. Initially her reply was “Why would I want to jump out of a perfectly good plane when I would much rather board and turn left and sit and drink Champagne!” Needless to say she relented and we jumped!

Ready, Steady, Go!

Then there is Me, Helen. I have no idea how to describe myself, maybe I should leave that to someone else…
